HOME, I’M DARLING by Laura Wade
1950s domestic bliss promises big but delivers short because, of course, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Oh yes, and because it’s 2024.
Judy has been driven to an unusual, all-consuming lifestyle change. She has been influenced by a childhood (rose-tinted) view of her father watching endless re-runs of 1950s films where the families were blissfully happy. That’s what Judy is seeking. Everyone criticises her choices. No-one understands why and no-one is supporting her. After all her efforts to achieve domestic bliss, Judy is usurped by a very modern woman who has the sparkle she used to have and which her husband misses.
Winner of the 2019 Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, Home I’m Darling by Laura Wade is a thought-provoking comedy about one woman’s quest to be the perfect wife.
