Whole GSCE year at Wykham Park Academy sent home just before mock exams
A whole year group at the Wykham Park Academy have been told to stay at home due to what the school describes as a “cluster of cases” of COVID-19 this week. Year 11 have all been told to self-isolate from today until the 23rd November. The students are currently just a couple of weeks away from taking their mock exams.
In a letter to parents, Executive Principal Sylvia Thomas said: “During the past week there has been a large cluster of Year 11 students who have tested positive for COVID-19.
“I have therefore made the decision to create a circuit breaker for all Wykham Park Year 11 students. This will mean that Year 11 students should not come into school tomorrow, Friday 6th November and should not return to school until Monday 23rd November.
“Lessons will take place using Google classroom and will follow your child’s normal timetable.”
“Mock exams will now take place when students return to school, week commencing 23rd November. It is therefore vitally important that students continue to work hard during the next two weeks.”
Meanwhile two local primary schools have also told pupils to stay away.
Bloxham Primary School’s Class 3S have been told to self-isolate from today. They will return to school on Monday 23rd November.
On Wednesday this week William Morris School announced a year 2 bubble needed to stay at home until Thursday 19th November.
The education system has remained open this week as the rest of the country began a second period of lockdown. The National Education Union is demanding more support for schools. They say: “To stay safe schools require rapid testing, increased mask use, investment to cover COVID costs, rotas, the resources to make blended learning work, and protection for the vulnerable.
“Without schools in the lockdown these measures become all the more urgent.”
