Purse snatched from woman in 80s shopping in supermarket

Elderly shopper consoled by staff after theft

A woman in her 80s had her purse snatched whilst shopping in Sainsbury’s yesterday (Wednesday).   Staff were left to support the victim after the incident at lunchtime.

One customer took to social media to express their disgust.   They told Banbury FM they saw “something being swiped and a figure running”.

It is understood Sainsbury’s staff spent time looking after the elderly lady and paid for her shopping.

Thames Valley police told us: “We were called at around 12.15pm this afternoon (11/11) to a report of a purse theft in Sainsburys, Oxford Road.

“An investigation is ongoing into this incident.”

A spokesperson for Sainsburys said: “We would like to thank our store colleagues who were on hand to support the customer following the incident and we’re assisting the police with their investigation.”
