The team behind the annual festive Tractor Run are pressing ahead with their plans for this year’s event.   However, they warn people to remain prepared for a cancellation as the pandemic continues to wreak havoc with the local events calendar.

For the past four years a fairy lit convoy of tractors has toured the villages to the south of Banbury.   The Tractor Run is organised by RC Baker Ltd Agricultural Contractors and sees members of the farming community coming together to bring some festive joy and raise money for the Katharine House Hospice.   Last year the event raised around £10,000.

Currently the 2020 Tractor Run is planned for Friday December 18th.

A statement issued by the organisers said: “We at Tractor Run HQ are very excited to announce, that after a great deal of consideration, have decided to press on with plans for the 2020 Christmas Tractor Run on Friday 18th Dec!

“We very much hope that we can light up the streets once again BUT we need to remain prepared for a cancellation, and potentially one at very short notice if needed.”

To enable this year’s Tractor Run the organisers have had to include changes to the way the event normally operates to ensure the safety of those involved and the general public.   These plans have been submitted to Cherwell District Council and the Safety Advisory Group.   Permission to go ahead can not be given until closer to the event when the area’s COVID tier level and restrictions are  known.

The event has this year been given the slogan “keep it fun, keep it safe, keep it festive”, which was suggested by the team at Katharine House Hospice, who will once again receive the proceeds from the evening.

The statement said: “Our priority is to keep everyone safe and we still need full sign off from local authorities to go ahead but having presented our planned changes for this year’s event, in light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the feedback from Cherwell District Council and Safety Advisory Group has been positive.

“They of course, can’t give us an official green light to go ahead until the current lockdown has ended and there has been time to consider any changes to restrictions on a local or national level but all being well the Tractor Run is go, go, go!

“We want to assure you that we haven’t taken this decision lightly and that we will only be going ahead if we and the local authorities feel it is safe to do so.”

Last year the festive convoy forming the Tractor Run left Spring Hill Farm in Barford-St-Michael and travelled around South Newington, Milcombe, Bloxham, Milton, Adderbury and Deddington.

Tractor Run has its own dedicated page with details of this year’s event at www.rcbaker.co.uk/tractorrun.
