“I’m getting daily messages.   ‘Can you go to this place, can you go to that place, I know a family that is struggling.’”

A charitable gift to celebrate a couple’s wedding anniversary has become something of a mission for a Banbury man, who wanted to act to ensure families in our area weren’t going hungry.

In November Banbury FM reported that Prabhu Natarajan and his wife Shilpa Balachandran from Bretch Hill had decided to mark their anniversary by buying food and giving it to those who are currently struggling.

Since then, Prabhu has continued taking food to those in need, with other local people helping him by donating items.   Prabhu said: “I’m getting daily messages.   ‘Can you go to this place, can you go to that place, I know a family that is struggling.’   I’m getting more and more messages daily.”

Prabhu has now started documenting all the requests he is getting and noting all the food he is delivering.   He is adjusting the amount of food delivered for larger families so they have enough.   In total he thinks he has delivered nearly 10,000 individual items.

This week, ahead of his son’s sixth birthday celebrations in January, Prabhu wanted to organise food parcels for a local primary school where he was aware there were a number of struggling families.   After announcing his plan on social media a number of individuals and businesses contacted Prabhu to say they wished to donate.

He assembled around 600 items into 25 food parcels.   Prabhu’s son Addhu asked if he could send cards to each of the 25 families.   Prabhu said: “Normally if he writes two letters he will stop, but he really enjoyed it.   I said he could do ten then stop and play but he didn’t agree and just kept going.”

The 25 complete parcels were then taken to the school yesterday where the teaching staff were very appreciative.

Prabhu now plans to organise another initiative before Christmas.   He said: “Next week I have something different and very big news”.
