Local theatre group find a way to bring their popular Christmas show to families in their own homes

Voices Across Time, the popular Local theatre group, will be bringing their Christmas show direct to you at your place this evening.   But Once A Year will be streamed at 6pm.

The Voices Across Time team combine music and history in their original shows.  Normally at this time of year they would be touring local care homes to bring festive joy to the residents.   Public performances with live audiences would also form an integral part of their pre-Christmas schedule.      This year, the pandemic has stopped all of that, but Voices Across Time have worked to ensure the show still goes on.

Their latest production is called But Once A Year.   Joe Cummings from Voices Across Time said: “The show is the story of Christmas journeying from the birth of Christ through to modern day.   It looks at communities and family Christmases and different traditions that happen over time.

“Because people are celebrating such different Christmases, particularly this year in 2020, we’re looking at the best bits and worst bits of previous Christmases.”

The show has been filmed in St Mary’s Church in Adderbury and will be streamed this evening.   As the pandemic took hold the group realised the needed to find alternative ways to continue performing.

Flo Taylor said: “We rose to the challenge.   We produced a radio podcast with Radio Horton and then realised whilst we couldn’t do a live show, under COVID restrictions we could still film it.

“We bubbled together and pulled our cast to live together.”

Jo added: “We filmed in St Mary’s Church in Adderbury.   It gave us a really good opportunity to use parts of the church that wouldn’t normally be available to use during a show.   We filmed in corners with some amazing carvings and strange historic artefacts”.

Voices Across Time have maintained their links with local care homes during the last few months, utilising Zoom to run fun sessions stimulating movement and generating conversations.   Care home residents have been watching But Once A Year in a shared experience with their families further afield.

Tickets can be purchased from voicesacrosstime.com – search for But Once A Year.   A ticket allows access for a whole household and costs £10 with 30 days access to the show.
