Local people show their gratitude for hard work of man who helps others

A man who has spent the last few months distributing food to those in need has become the beneficiary of generous gifts from people who wanted to show their gratitude for everything he has done.

Prabhu Natarajan from Bretch Hill has been organising food parcels for those who are currently struggling.   The idea started as a one off gesture to mark Prabhu’s wedding anniversary, but after seeing how many people were requesting help Prabhu has continued distributing food parcels since.

Having moved to the UK less than a year ago Prabhu and his wife did not own a television.   Prabhu said: “We didn’t think it was an important thing to have”.

With another lockdown period looming Prabhu realised his six-year-old son’s schooling would move online so he researched the prices of smart TVs.   Prabhu said: “What we liked would cost around £300-£400.   They are not cheap.   I thought about how many food packets we could have made with that money”.

Prabhu decided to see if anyone would be willing to sell him a second hand smart TV and posted a message online.   The generous response he received from two local people who recognised his efforts to help others left him speechless.

Prabhu received a text message from one person saying: “I know you are doing lots of things for the community.   If you don’t mind I would like to give your son a small gift”.   The man then arrived at Prabhu’s house with a brand new 50 inch full featured smart TV as a present.

Whilst Prabhu felt the gift was too much the donor was insistent.   Prabhu said: “He told me if you stopped all this giving [the food parcels] for one month you could have saved up for this TV.   You deserve it.”

The surprises didn’t end there as later Prabhu received a call from the father of a neighbour who then presented another smart TV as a gift for his son.   Prabhu said: “I just asked to buy one second hand TV but I’ve been given two new ones.”

So far Prabhu has delivered 480 food parcels since his project began.   He is keen to continue distributing the food to those in need and now even plans to put the money he had saved for a second hand TV towards helping others.

Prabhu said: “I always believe in karma.   Whatever you do it will come back to you.   We should do things from our heart.”
