Lake House in Adderbury hopes the cheer and joy of young people can be sent in to their residents through youngsters poems and pictures

A care home in Adderbury is asking children to spend some of their time at home over the next few weeks creating poems and pictures to send in to bring some joy to the home’s residents.

Lake House in Adderbury is hoping the initiative will help bring the community together and combat feelings of isolation as the pandemic continues to keep people apart.

Theresa Fisk, the Activities Coordinator at Lake House, said: “We’ve had such doom and gloom and nobody is able to mix with their families.   I thought, let’s get the children, now they are doing their lessons at home, to create poems and pictures and send them in to cheer up the residents.”

Theresa says reading the poems and looking at the pictures is an activity the Lake House residents will enjoy.   She said: “The thought that these children have spent time in their day thinking of them, it will be good for everybody – it will put a smile on their face”.

Lake House has remained free from COVID-19 and has managed to arrange pod visits for some family members, but they acknowledge its not the same as being able to hug someone. Those with hearing problems may struggle to understand what is said.

Theresa said, “Its been a difficult time and everyone is working so hard to keep the virus out.   I want the cheer and the happiness to come into this home.”

Lake House has been donated some prizes that will be awarded to the best poems and pictures that are sent in.   They are keen to receive poems and pictures from adults as well as young people.

Items should be sent directly to Lake House, Lake Walk, The Green, Adderbury, Banbury, OX17 3NG.
