Males carrying knives involved in confrontation, chase and assault

A man had his hand slashed in a knife attack in Banbury High Street on Monday morning.   The victim had been running away from two males who had approached him as he left the Robert Dyas store.

As he made off in the opposite direction he tripped and one of the males caught him up.   Whilst on the floor the victim’s hand was slashed with a knife.

The two males were then confronted by another man.   He was also carrying a knife. The two males chased this man into the Tesco store and then assaulted him.

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following the incident which happened at around 11.10am.

The victim, a man in his twenties, required hospital treatment for the wound to his hand.   He has since been discharged.

Investigating officer, PC Tony Francis, based at Banbury police station, said: “I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident, or who has any information about what happened, to please get in touch.

“I believe there were a number of people in the Tesco store at the time of this incident who would have seen what happened and I would ask them to please make contact with us as you may have important information relating to our investigation.

A 22-year-old man and a 55-year-old man, both from Banbury were arrested on suspicion of affray and have been released on police bail.
