An Easter open air dip has been made available as the outdoor pool opens earlier than usual

Those hoping for some warm Easter sunshine, and hardy outdoor swimmers, will both be pleased by a surprise announcement from the Woodgreen Leisure Centre.   This year they will be opening the outdoor swimming pool earlier than planned.

The 2021 outdoor pool season will now begin at the end of this month, on Monday March 29.   With children breaking up for the Easter Holidays during that week, the chance of an Easter outdoor swim offers parents an activity option for the break.

Staff at the Leisure Centre do warn that the earlier opening for the 50 metre pool will be for “chilly water swimming”.   The water will be heated to 16C and the centre says that the wearing of wetsuits is optional for customers.

After the swim the centre promises their showers will be nice and warm!

The earlier opening does come with some potential hazards.   The centre say that in the event of thunder and lightening the pool will have to close.  Any bookings made for this time would be non-refundable and non-transferable.

Normally the outdoor pool would open later in April.   Last year the season was heavily affected by the pandemic.

This year COVID rules will still be in operation meaning that 55 minute slots must be booked in advance via the LeisureCentre App or Woodgreen Leisure Centre Website.    Bookings can be made up to 7 days in advance with payment required at the time of booking.

In the pool, to comply with social distancing guidelines, all sessions will be lane swimming only, following a one way system.   Swimmers must be able to competently swim 50 metres unaided according to the directional signs.

Customers will be required to arrive for their session swim ready, but toilets, showers and changing facilities will be available for those leaving the centre.

Initially the pool will be open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday from 7:30am – 9:30am, 11:30am – 2:00pm and 4:00pm – 6:00pm.  An additional session will run on Saturdays from 8:00am – 11:00am.   The centre says these times will be expanded in May.
