Juniors and coaches will benefit from close ties with the Championship club

Banbury United has announced a new partnership with Coventry City FC which will see the club’s juniors and coaches both benefitting from close ties with the Championship club.

As the Puritans move into the 2021/22 season the club will begin aligning its values and coaching focus for younger players alongside those implemented by Coventry City.   Additionally the Sky Blues are offering continuing professional development courses for Banbury United’s coaches, who will be able to access the professional coaches as mentors and develop by having access to Coventry’s training sessions and facilities.

Paul Jaye, Head of Academy Recruitment at the Sky Blues said: “We are delighted to be working closely with Banbury United Football Club. A progressive club who are passionate about providing pathways and development opportunities for all players and coaches in the Banbury community.”

James Pope, Director at Banbury United, said: “Ultimately for 98% of our junior section it is about fun, being active and developing skills that will be important for adult life. However, for the 2% of talent that need a shop window to give them a platform of pursuing a dream in the very competitive world of academy football, the connection to Coventry City has just become significantly more established.”

Dewain Clarke, Director and Chairman of Banbury United Youth Section, said: “Banbury United Youth are incredibly pleased to be entering a relationship with Coventry City F.C, to work with a professional club can only enhance our coaching standards while giving children the opportunities they would not have had.

“Our coaches will be given the chance to learn and be mentored by full time professionals, while our players will be given the chance to visit Coventry.”

Banbury United First Team Manager Andy Whing added: “As a product of the Coventry City academy this is a fantastic link for our football club and just shows the progress we’re making. It’s really exciting times at Banbury United and we’re delighted to get Coventry City on board to help our youngsters improve.”
