30 local retail jobs created by discount store chain

A new UK-wide discount store chain is opening in the Castle Quay Shopping Centre later this week.   One Below will welcome its first customers at 10am this Friday morning.

Everything in One Below will be sold for £1 and under.   The store occupies the former SuperSavers unit.

The bargain retailer has invested a six-figure sum in the opening and created 30 local retail jobs.   The store at Castle Quay Shopping Centre will be the very first from the chain to open in the Oxfordshire area.

The up-and-coming discount retailer has previously opened stores across the UK to queues of shoppers looking to bag a haul of bargains.

One Below will offer thousands of essential items across 10 departments including essential cleaning, groceries, medical, home, pet care, health and beauty and DIY.

Christopher Edwards, managing director of One Below Retail Limited, said: “We’re delighted to have chosen Banbury as the location for our very first One Below store in Oxfordshire.

“Now more than ever, when times are financially tighter for so many families, we are proud to be offering incredible savings on hundreds of branded shopping essentials and on-trend items.

“It’s great to be able to occupy this space in the shopping centre. When other retailers on the high street are closing, we’re delighted to be able to offer new jobs to locals working in the retail industry.

“Almost 50% of our team are ex-Poundworld employees who lost their role when Poundworld went in to administration three years ago.”

Cllr Lynn Pratt, Lead Member for Economy, Regeneration and Property at Cherwell District Council, said: “We are delighted that One Below has chosen Banbury as the location for its first Oxfordshire store, joining our great line up of tenants and creating new jobs. The arrival of One Below is important for the town as we work on bringing new and interesting names to Banbury.”

Oliver Wren, Centre Director at Castle Quay Shopping Centre, commented: “We are confident that One Below will prove popular with local people and visitors to the town. We’re committed to serving the needs of the local community, while maintaining a safe shopping environment for our customers and team. We thank our customers in helping us to meet government health guidelines by shopping responsibly, with consideration for others when in the centre.”

Since One Below’s launch two years ago, the independent retailer has opened over 60 stores UK wide with plans for further expansion in 2021.
