Woodgreen Leisure Centre ready to welcome first customers of the new season tomorrow

Tomorrow sees lockdown rules changing and a number of outdoor sports able to resume.   At the Woodgreen Leisure Centre the staff are ready and waiting for the arrival of the first visitors for the start of this year’s outdoor pool season.

Ahead of the doors opening the centre has issued notes so those that have pre-booked their outdoor swim will be able to easily and safely access the facilities.

The outdoor pool will be open for pre-booked swims on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30am – 9:25am, 11:30am – 2:25pm and 4:00pm – 5:55pm.   There will be another session on Saturday mornings from 8:00am – 10:55am.

Booking in advance is essential. Bookings can be done via the Leisure Centre App or Woodgreen Leisure Centre Website. Bookings can be made up to 7 days in advance. Payment is required on booking.

All sessions will be lane swimming and 55 minutes long.  Simmers will have to be able to swim 50metres competently and unaided up and down the pool according to the directional signage, to ensure social distancing is adhered too at all times.

Those visiting the centre to swim are reminded:

  • When arriving by car use the second car park which is closest to the pool entrance and exit.
  • Arrive swim ready as changing rooms will not be available on the way in.
  • Face coverings are required to be worn during any visit to the centre, with the exception of while exercising.
  • The entrance to the pool will be via a gate on Poolside Close Road. The gate will open 5 minutes before the start of the session. Customers will need to queue according to social distancing guidelines.
  • Customers will be expected to sign in at reception on arrival.
  • A one way system will be in operation around the facilities, including around poolside.
  • Lockers are available during swimming sessions. Customers are required to bring a padlocks if they want to secure belongings.
  • Toilets, showers and changing facilities will be available via the way out only.
  • Customers will exit via the gate into the car park.
  • The centre has plenty of sanitising stations around the facilities for customers to use during their visit.

This year’s outdoor swimming season has started earlier than normal.   With children breaking up for the Easter Holidays this week the chance of an Easter outdoor swim offers parents an activity option for the break.

Staff at the Leisure Centre warn that the earlier opening for the 50 metre pool will be for “chilly water swimming”.   The water will be heated to 16C and the centre says that the wearing of wetsuits is optional for customers.   They also advise anyone planning to take a dip researches the effects of cold water swimming before heading to the pool.
