Time running out to register to vote

There’s less than two weeks until its too late to join the electoral role and participate in May’s elections

If you’re not currently registered to vote you have just 13 days left to ensure you can have your say at the local elections on May 6th.   Those wanting to vote by post have 14 days remaining to notify Cherwell District Council.

This year the county council are holding elections for all 63 of its seats.   One-third of Cherwell District Council seats are also up for election and a number of parishes are also selecting councillors.    In addition voters will be asked to elect a Police and Crime Commissioner for the Thames Valley.

Yvonne Rees, Returning Officer for Cherwell District Council, Oxfordshire County Council, Cherwell parishes and for the Thames Valley Police Area, said: “If you are planning to vote by post or you believe you may not be registered to vote there is now less than a fortnight to sort those things out and ensure you can exercise your democratic right on May 6. Now is the time to act with Easter over and April well underway. The deadlines later in April will be here before we know it.”

The deadline for registering to vote is Monday 19 April at 11:59 pm.   Those wishing to apply for a postal vote must do so by Tuesday April 20 at 5pm.
