The Banbury based Westminster Group has won one of the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in the International Trade field.  The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious awards for UK business.

Westminster has been recognised for its excellence in International Trade for its outstanding growth in overseas sales.   It is one of just 205 organisations from across the country for which Her Majesty The Queen has approved the Prime Minister’s recommendation of the award.

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are for outstanding achievement by UK businesses in the categories of innovation, international trade, sustainable development and promoting opportunity through social mobility.

The Westminster Group, based at Blacklocks Hill, is recognised globally for its specialist security and services expertise.   It operates worldwide via an international network of agents with offices in over 50 countries.

Over three years, Westminster’s overseas sales have grown year on year by 96.4%, with overseas sales accounting for over 80% of total sales. Westminster supplied products and services to 66 countries in 2019 and 72 countries in 2020.

Peter Fowler, Chief Executive of Westminster, said: “I am delighted that Her Majesty the Queen has approved the Prime Minister’s recommendation that Westminster be awarded a Queen’s Award in recognition of our outstanding contribution to International Trade.

“The significance of this prestigious award is recognised worldwide and is an indication of the growth and momentum we have achieved with our world-wide business over the past few years.

“In November 2020 Westminster was recognised by the London Stock Exchange as one of the select 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain and to have now been selected for this distinguished award is an honour, not just for the Company but for all our employees around the world who have contributed to this success.

“Covid-19 travel restrictions etc. continue to create challenges for our business, however all indications are we will see a strong recovery this year as restrictions are lifted and I look forward to a robust performance for 2021.

The award will be formally presented by the Lord Lieutenant for Northamptonshire on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, at a ceremony at Westminster House on Friday, 30 July 2021.

Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said: “The past year has been a tough time for many businesses across the UK, which is why it is more important than ever to celebrate the achievements of our wealth creators and recognise the contributions they make to our communities.

“In the last 12 months, British businesses showed the entrepreneurial spirit that this country is renowned for, continuing to drive social mobility, find new markets to export to and produce innovative products and services.

“I congratulate this year’s winners and I wish every business that applied for an award this year every success in the future as we build back better from the pandemic.”

Banbury’s former MP, Sir Tony Baldry, is the Chairman of The Westminster Group.
