Banbury company running an open day to find new talent to develop

A market leading Banbury company is looking for the next generation of people wanting to work in the construction and manufacturing sector.   The Hawkins Group has grown from operating as a sole trader in 1978 to a company with over 90 employees and a £30m turnover.

The company, which is based on Thorpe Way, is holding an Open Day on June 30 to find new apprentices and wants to hear from anyone who would like to attend.

Managing Director Mike Hawkins said: “People are at the heart of our business, so being able to grow new talent and continually develop and motivate and have a skilled workforce is what we need to continue to be a market leader in our industry.”

The Open day will offer those attending the chance to learn more about the Hawkins Group and the apprentice experience.   Run in a COVID safe environment, there will be a chance to talk to the management teams and see live technical demonstrations.   The company will have live rigs available for people to use and there will be opportunities to have a go at welding and stainless steel work.

The Hawkins Group includes an industrial roofing company, a steel fabrication and installation company, a projects company and an estates business.   They work across a number of industries including food, laundry, sport, manufacturing, financial and commercial.

The company invests in the latest technology so people can interact with the look and feel of a proposed new building.   Mr Hawkins said: “We have a big design office within our group which has virtual reality: [augmented reality], 3D and 2D.

“We even have a Hawk Walk system here where we strap you into a big modelling system.  You put the [Virtual Reality] goggles on and, if your building is 100m long, you can walk round it.   You can see all of the structure, the interior design, and the externals we are going to create for you, before you procure anything from Hawkins.”

Anyone interested in attending the Open Day and learning more about an apprenticeship with the Hawkins Group needs to register by this Friday (June 18).

Mr Hawkins said: “It’s going to be fun with lots of demonstrations and hopefully you’ll be able to discover a career that’s good for yourself.”
