Council working to get a mobile testing unit redeployed at Bodicote House until town centre site reopens

Banbury’s COVID testing centre at the Castle Quay Shopping Centre has been forced to close whilst what are described as “internal health and safety remediation works” are carried out.   The site has been closed since the weekend.

The testing centre is operated by the UK Health Security Agency who suggest the nearest walk-in testing site is currently Daventry.  The nearest drive through facility is at Oxford Parkway Park and Ride in Oxford.  For those who cannot travel it is suggested they order a home testing kit.

It’s understood Cherwell District Council is currently working to get a mobile testing unit redeployed at Bodicote House again until the Bridge Street site is back up and running.

The testing site in the former M&S unit at Castle Quay opened in September.   Local walk-in testing had previously been offered at the Woodgreen Leisure Centre.   A drive-through facility has also been available at Cherwell District Council’s HQ at Bodicote House.

It is not currently known how long the local testing site will remain closed, although remedial work is due to begin this week.

Those needing to book a COVID test today are being offered a walk-in visit at Chaucer Way Car Park in Daventry, the drive through facility at Oxford Parkway Park and Ride in Oxford or a home testing kit.

A spokesperson for the UK Health Security Agency said: “The Banbury LTS at 36 Bridge Street has been temporarily closed to allow for some necessary internal health and safety remediation works to be carried out. Work is due to commence on site this week.

“We encourage individuals to continue to book tests online where applicable and advise that they can attend the nearest testing facility located at Chaucer Way Car Park, Daventry while works are being carried out. Alternatively they can order a home testing kit by visiting gov.uk.”

Anyone wishing to order a free home test kit, which is delivered by post with a fast turnaround, can do so here.
