You don’t have to wear a face mask but many local places would appreciate it if you did

It’s freedom day.   Today the majority of the lockdown rules we have been living under for a number of months have been lifted, but a number of local businesses are asking their customers to continue to be cautious.

Rules enforcing the wearing face coverings in shops and on public transport, social distancing, limits on numbers at events and table service in pubs have been removed.   But in the face of rising infection rates some local business owners are urging caution and asking the public to continue to follow best-practise guidance.

Castle Quay Shopping Centre say they will be encouraging people to continue wearing face masks. and to respect others.

At Spiceball and Woodgreen Leisure Centres the showers and changing rooms will be available for use but lane and casual swimming will still need to be booked.   Face coverings will be optional, but recommended – especially in crowded places.

All the main local supermarkets are requesting you to continue wearing a face mask.

RJ’s Barbers in White Lion Walk are not planning on returning to the pre-pandemic way of operating.   They say: “From Monday with the new guidelines not a lot will be changing for us. The appointment system has worked so well it is something that is a permanent feature.

“With regards to wearing a mask we will be sticking with that and leaving it to our clients to do so if they wish.

“We have come a long way since all this started and have been very fortunate with the outcome. Let’s stick to just being sensible and the rest will follow.”

Doodledash Interiors in Parson’s Street will also continue being cautious.   They said: “We have taken the decision to continue with our current covid precautions.

“Myself and Erin, when she runs the shop, will continue to wear masks in consideration of our customers. We would very much appreciate it if our customers continue to wear their masks in return.”

Stagecoach Buses are requesting people keep wearing a face covering throughout their journey if they can.   They will continue with enhanced cleaning and keeping windows open to increase air ventilation.

Meanwhile at our local health centres and the Horton General all rules will remain in place by law, with no change from last week.
