Local labour leader accuses MP of being on the side of lies and law-breaking

Boris Johnson survived a vote of confidence on Monday night

“We won’t let her – or the electorate – forget it”: that’s the message from the leader of the Labour Group at Cherwell District Council after reports emerged that Banbury’s MP had chosen to back Prime Minister Boris Johnson in yesterday’s vote of confidence.

Sean Woodcock, who is the Leader of the Opposition at the District Council, issued a strong statement saying he believed Mrs Prentis “showed that she is on the side of lies and law-breaking”.

Ahead of the confidence vote Mrs Prentis did not publicly declare if she would back Mr Johnson, but a BBC reporter said they had confirmation she would be standing by the Prime Minister.   Last week Mrs Prentis appeared on ITV’s Peston programme to defend the Conservative leader in the wake of the Partygate affair.

At Monday night’s vote 148 Conservative MPs voted to oust Mr Johnson from Downing Street, but the prime minister won the support of 211 MPs.   The result was the worst for a sitting prime minister by their own party in recent years.

In Mr Woodcock’s statement he described Mr Johnson’s behaviour as “an insult to our democracy and to the bereaved and heartbroken who abided by the rules he set.”

He added: “Victoria Prentis has said, repeatedly, that she understands the hurt this caused and is sorry.   But these are crocodile tears.

“By siding with the lying lawbreaker in No. 10, she has shown whose side she is on. And it isn’t the people of Banbury and Bicester.

“We won’t let her, or her electorate, forget it.”

Sir, you are assuming you speak for all people of Bicester and Banbury, these are purely your personal thoughts, you do not speak on behalf of me and have no right to do so. I am entirely supportive of Victoria Prentis and our PM for the amazing hard work they have given selflessly in the extraordinary situation globally and at home. Labour assumes they speak for everyone, you really have no idea other than be vitriolic. Yours, Conservative through and through.

Another bandwagon for Woodcock to climb on. If there’s one going around he’s sure to be on it.
Nothing new in what he says. He can’t even come up with his own original words. He’s just repeating Labour nonsense.
Victoria Prentis is perfectly right to stand by her leader and I admire her for it. Many of the MPs now criticising Boris should remember they wouldn’t be MPs if it wasn’t for him. At the last election he was responsible for the landslide move to the Tories.
Is Woodcock saying that if the ineffective beer-drinking-during-lockdown Starmer was to make a few mistakes he (Woodcock) would desert his leader.
Boris has got all the big things right and people, especially his own MPs, should get behind him.
Boris is respected around the world and there is no-one else in the country who would have the same influence.
Look out Sean – another bandwagon heading your way. What’s the Labour Party line on this one.
