Resurfacing work on the A361 in town is scheduled to be complete by the end of Wednesday

An end is in sight to the long running closure of the northbound A361 on North Bar.   Thames Water has confirmed to Banbury FM that resurfacing work is due to be complete by the end of tomorrow (Wednesday) and it is hoped the road will be back open by Thursday.

Crews are on site and have started work today.

The carriageway has been closed since a water main burst during the early hours of Saturday September 5th.   Whilst soundboard traffic has remained unaffected, northbound traffic has been diverted at Banbury Cross.

Initially it was anticipated that repairs to the carriageway would be completed in around a week, but the work has taken longer than expected with extra checks being made to ensure the burst hadn’t caused any further damage to the road.

A Thames Water spokesperson said: “We’re sorry for the delay in fully reopening North Bar Street.

“We’d like to thank residents and motorists for their patience while we’ve been carrying out this vital repair.

“The northbound side is due to be resurfaced on Wednesday with a view to re-opening to traffic on Thursday.”
