Volunteers in their 80s were overseeing the museum when teenagers caused trouble

Parents have apologised for their children following what has been described as “pathetic behaviour” at Bloxham Museum over the weekend.   Three teenagers caused trouble at the building during a time when two volunteers, aged in their 80s, were overseeing the museum.

The teenagers – a boy and two girls – entered the building at around 4pm on Sunday afternoon.   They were seen running around the museum, touching the displays and trying to open the cabinets.

The youngsters also took items from the museum and ran up the road with them.

Its understood other visitors were in the museum at the time.

Details of the incident were posted on Bloxham’s village website on Monday afternoon.   The message concluded: “Given that most young people strive to make a positive contribution to society, it’s always sad to be reminded of the existence of a tiny anti-social minority so lacking in imagination or decency that they think intimidating the elderly rates as an acceptable activity!  It doesn’t!  It really doesn’t!”

By Monday evening parents of two of the children had contacted the museum to apologise for the behaviour of their children.

Its believed the none of the exhibits were damaged during the incident.

Why can’t the teenagers apologise instead of their parents? surely they are old enough to read and write now, or use a telephone!

      How very brave of them.
Appart from theft, that must have been quite an intimidating experience for the staff.
Why are the three of them not having to take the consequence of their actions?

Totally agree. Only a written letter personally delivered would suffice and punishment of volunteering in the museum.

How sad you would like to ask them why and whats missing in there lives…when i was 10 i was in trouble for stealing penny sweets my parents made me go back and apologise and pay the shop keeping besides a good telling off and thats putting it lightly…how times have changed…but alot of good out there which must be said…

I know this is probably not politically correct in todays enlightened times, but my mum or dad would have given me a right clatter and dragged me by the ear to personally apologise to everyone affected by that behaviour! The parents apologising on their behaviour teaches them nothing, except that mummy and daddy will smooth things over for them!
