Proposals for solar farm on land north of Cherwell Valley Silos

The scheme would have a peak generation capacity of 3.168 mega-watts
Plans have been submitted to build a solar farm installation on land to the north of Cherwell Valley Silos. The field between the main railway line and the River Cherwell could contain 7,040 solar panels.
A planning application has been submitted to West Northamptonshire District Council.
The scheme suggests two arrays in the field with a peak generation capacity of 3.168 mega-watts. The southern section of the array would supply power to the Cherwell Valley Silos business park, with the remainder exported to Western Power Distribution’s grid via their existing infrastructure.
Power generated by the northern section of the array would be fed into the network using new overhead cables.
Whilst the land forms part of the flood plain the applicant says mitigating measures will be taken to protect against this. They point out: “as Solar Parks or Farms are classed as essential energy infrastructure and as they are unmanned and can also be made flood resilient, they are not considered inappropriate development in a Flood Zone 3 area, subject to passing an exception test.”
The application sits on the edge of the Kings Sutton Parish. The village’s Parish Council discussed the proposal last night and has raised no objection to the application.
