Protect your home – Banbury has seen an increase in burglaries

Police believe the offences are being committed by an organised group from outside our area

We’re being warned to protect our homes against burglaries after an increase in thefts from residential properties in Banbury.

The Cherwell Priority Crime Team at Thames Valley Police say they have seen an increase in reported cases since the beginning of September.   They believe the offences are being committed by an organised group from outside the local area.

In the main it is unoccupied houses that are targeted during the evening – between the hours of 6pm and 11pm.   Jewellery and cash are usually stolen.

Thames Valley Police are putting extra patrols in the area but are asking the public the report any suspicious vehicles – especially those containing groups of males, or males appearing to look at unoccupied houses.

Householders are reminded to take appropriate crime prevention measures such as ensuring doors and windows are locked, keys are not left in patio doors and side gates into gardens have a proper lock.   The Police suggest considering using a timer switch to turn on lights before dusk and also leaving a radio playing.

Anyone who believes they have seen suspicious activity should call 101 (quoting reference 43210471295).   In the case of an emergency always call 999.
