Police witness appeal after man sustains serious leg injuries when car and bin lorry collide

A refuse collection worker has been left badly injured after a car crashed into the back of the bin lorry where he was working.   The man, who is in his fifties, was trapped between the car and the bin lorry and received serious injuries to his legs.

The collision occurred at around 8.35am yesterday (Tuesday October 5) on the B4030 in Middle Barton.   A green Ford Fiesta ran into the rear of a bin lorry in North Street.

At the time a refuse collection worker was at the rear of the lorry.

Fire crews from Kidlington and Deddington Fire Station worked with South Central Ambulance Service and Thames Valley Police to free the man from between the two vehicles.   He was taken to hospital, where he remains receiving treatment.

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following the collision.

Investigating officer, PC Matt Watson, of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to please come forward.”

Following the incident, crews from the fire service expressed their gratitude for the training they receive giving them the knowledge of how to deal with situations like the one they faced in Middle Barton.   Writing on social media they said: “This highlights the importance of our training and involvement with the United Kingdom Rescue Organisation and demonstrates the need for our continuous development to keep providing a professional service for our communities.”
