Police catch 18-year-old who attempted to run away whilst being detained
An 18-year-old male tried to escape from police officers whilst undergoing a drugs related stop and search in Banbury on Saturday evening. The man had been spotted by officers in Merton Street. They suspected him to be drug dealing.
Police used the powers afforded to them under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act to stop and search the male. As they detained him he attempted to run away.
One of the officers pursued the 18-year-old and caught him.
A quantity of suspected Class B drugs were found on the man, who is from Banbury. He was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and spent the evening in custody.
The man was subsequently released under investigation whilst the police continue their enquiries.
