Views sought on our household waste and recycling centres

The centre at Alkerton is one of seven in the county covered by a new consultation

Are you a user of the household waste and recycling centre at Alkerton, or one of the other centres in Oxfordshire?   The County Council is seeking local people’s views on the service that is provided now and what they might like to see in the future.

The household waste and recycling centres account for 15 per cent of the county’s total household waste.   Some of the sites are nearing capacity and with the population growing the county council wants to ensure that the centres remain affordable and help people manage their waste in the most environmentally friendly way.

Councillor Dr Pete Sudbury, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate and Environment, said: “We want as many people as possible to get in touch with us to tell us what we’re doing well and what we could do better when it comes to our HWRCs. The feedback we get will be invaluable in helping us move the service forward to meet the future needs of the county.

“Even if you don’t use our HWRCs at the moment, we would still love you to get involved and tell us if there is anything we could do to encourage you to use them in the future.”

Views are being sought on issues including the distance people travel to the centres, what materials they take to dispose of, opening hours, permits, booking systems and vehicle restrictions.

People can have their say by visiting Let’s Talk Oxfordshire, the council’s new digital consultation and engagement platform.

We use the centre on a regular basis. The only complaint I have is the surly staff. We recently moved here from Thornton, Lancashire. Even during the lockdowns the staff there were friendly and as helpful as they could be. Out of lock down they would cone to the car and help unload without being asked. Maybe it’s a Northern trait?
