Police investigate abuse of staff by customers at outdoor pool
19/07/2022
The incident has had a detrimental effect on the staff who were helping people enjoy the hot weather
Many people flocked to escape the heat with a swim in Banbury’s Outdoor Swimming Pool on Monday, but the actions of a few have put at risk the chances of the facility being made available today – on what could be the hottest day on record in North Oxfordshire.
Whilst most people enjoyed the weather, several users are alleged to have assaulted the staff, both verbally and physically.
Writing on social media on Monday evening Woodgreen Leisure Centre said: “This simply will not be tolerated and we are pushing for full prosecution from the police. Our staff work very hard to keep you safe but this is not possible when they are open to this abuse.
“With this in mind we are currently unable to confirm [Tuesday’s] opening times as the incidents experienced today have had a detrimental effect on the staff.”
A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police confirmed to Banbury FM that they received reports of an incident of public order in Woodgreen Avenue at around 2.35pm on Monday. Officers are currently investigating the incident.
Shortly after 11am on Tuesday morning the Leisure Centre confirmed the outdoor pool would open today for lane swimming from 11.30am-1.30pm and for public swim sessions from 1.30 to 3.30pm and again from 4pm to 6pm.

I have just quit a job as lifeguard for receiving abuse and emotional pressure from guests to ignore bad behaviour. so now the company can deal with the problem without me.
