Travellers moved on from Hanwell Fields sports ground
05/10/2020
Section 61 notices used to evict community which had set up on field
Members of the travelling community were promptly moved from the Hanwell Fields sports ground on Friday afternoon following action by a Banbury Town Councillor and Thames Valley Police.
The convoy of cars and caravans had set up on the site a day or two earlier. This is the latest in a series of occupations on this site in recent years.
Councillor Tony Illot represents the Hardwick ward. Writing on the Hanwell Fields Residents Facebook page he said, “Had a meeting at Banbury Police Station this morning. It was agreed section 61 notices should be issued.
“We issued each caravan owner with a notice to leave by 14.00 deadline.
“At declared time 15 police (and me!) arrived and travellers realised if they didn’t go their possessions would be seized and proceeded to leave”.
Following the departure of the travellers the Banbury Town Rangers were on site to complete any clean up that was necessary.
Hanwell Fields sports ground is managed by Banbury Town Council. It is a multi-use area with provision for football and cricket.
