Brave fund raisers take to the skies strapped to the top wing of a bi-plane
Nine brave wing walkers took to the skies above Cirencester last Thursday to raise money for the Katharine House Hospice. So far they their high-flying fund raising challenge has brought in over £7,000.
Strapped to the top of a bi-plane, the experience took the brave participants to around 600 feet above ground. An experienced pilot made sure they got some great views of the surrounding countryside and the ultimate thrill seeker’s moments.
The volunteers taking part included Nicola, Karen, Mark, Steve, Janice, Niki, Denise, Peter and Katharine House fundraising manager Cherida Plumb.
The challenge took place at Rendcomb Airfield just north of Cirencester. Each volunteer was fully briefed before taking to the skies strapped to the top wing of a Boeing Stearman bi-plane. They experienced a series of flypasts, zoom climbs, steep dives and banks whilst taking in the breath-taking views from above.
Niki Rodhouse took part and got a real buzz from the experience. She said, “Wow, wow, wow!! What an experience. Once I’d overcome my nerves, it was phenomenal and I loved every moment of it. Even my cheeks flapping about in the wind!”
The group have already raised over £7,000 for Katharine House, with further sponsorship money still expected.
