Mark Pougatch wins £40,000 for BYHP on The Chase

Sports presenter banks £105,00 on ITV1 quiz show and is part of the team that outruns the Chaser

Banbury Young Homelessness Project (BYHP) will receive £40,000 as their share of the cash jackpot on the celebrity version of ITV1’s quiz show The Chase. Sports presenter Mark Pougatch was one of three winning celebrities and chose BYHP as his chosen charity.

Mark, who lives in our area, joined comedian Dane Baptiste, rugby referee Nigel Owens, and presenter Anita Rani in trying to amass as much money as possible in their prize fund.   Nigel was beaten by the Chaser, but the others made it through to the final chase.

Facing “The Governess” Anne Hegerty, Dane banked £8,000 in his cash builder round. Anita brough a further £7,000 to the cash pot.

Mark answered enough questions to take £8,000 back for the team, but opted to go for the higher offer from Anne Hegerty – an amazing £105,000. Despite having Ms Hegerty hot on his heels, with only one questions answered incorrectly Mark successfully increased the prize fund to £120,000.

In the final Chase a number of incorrect answers by the Chaser and a strong performance by the three celebrities left host Bradley Walsh declaring the celebrities had won £40,000 each for their chosen charity. Mr Pougatch named the Banbury Young Homelessness Project as the recipient of his share of the prize fund.

Mark has lived in our area for 15 years and is a BYHP Ambassador.   He is well known on television including for his role as ITV’s lead football anchor.

This is not his first appearance on the celebrity version of The Chase.   In 2017 he took on Shaun Wallace – known as the Dark Destroyer.   He chose Shaun’s higher offer of £84,000 and successfully outran Shaun to add the large sum to the jackpot.
