St Mary’s Primary School closed due to COVID-19 infections amongst staff

Children in Year 2 and those who have attended the schools Breakfast Club in the last few days must self-isolate for 14 days
St Mary’s Primary School on the Southam Road in Banbury is the latest school to announce its closure due to COVID-19 infections amongst the staff. The school will be closed from tomorrow (Monday) and remain closed until Tuesday 3rd November.
The school currently has two confirmed COVID-19 cases amongst the staff with others showing symptoms and now self-isolating. The lack of available staff has forced the decision to close.
Whilst most of the children have not been in contact with the staff affected the school says any youngsters in Year 2 and children who have attended Breakfast Club between 13th and 16th of October will need to isolate for 14 days.
A letter has been sent to parents this afternoon by Headteacher Victoria Woods and Chair of Governors, Maureen Thompson. It says, “I have to inform you that we have had 2 confirmed COVID+VE tests amongst the staff and other staff members showing symptoms and waiting for results.
“NO children have tested positive that we are aware of. We have taken the decision to close school for the week as a safety precaution and to allow school to be deep cleaned. This will also allow the affected staff to get better and their close contacts to isolate.
“Due to the number of staff isolating, we do not have enough people to open school safely. MOST children have not been in contact with the affected people and do NOT need to isolate. BUT Year 2 and children who have attended Breakfast Club between 13th and 16th of October NEED TO ISOLATE FOR 14 DAYS. You will receive another letter about this.
“Your teachers will try to call you all tomorrow and where we can help with translation our bilingual staff will call you. All the children can do work that is on the school website. If you need a paper copy, tell your teacher tomorrow. If you have questions, please email homelearning@banburystmarysschool.co.uk Someone will get back to you.
“I know this will worry you, but please be assured that by taking this action now, we can make sure no one else gets infected or ill.”
