Drop-in sessions resume for face-to-face conversations with local councillors

Elected members will be on hand for questions, comments and to hear about problems

Face to face meetings with town councillors are back on the agenda for residents who want to raise questions, make suggestions or discuss problems.

The return of monthly drop-in sessions at Banbury Town Hall means people can once again talk informally about issues or concerns in person, although the topics must be relevant to the town and to Banbury Town Council decision-making.

The monthly surgeries were regular features until they were suspended in 2020 because of coronavirus.

The meetings will take place on the first Saturday of each month – except August and January – and two councillors will be available on a rota basis to meet members of the public.

Appointments are not needed. Anyone can call in between 10am and midday.

The next meeting will be on 3 September when councillors Helen Mears and Kieron Mallon will be on duty.

Cllr Mallon, leader of the town council, said: “People can discuss issues, worries or concerns that come under the town council’s responsibilities.

“The meetings are important to the council as we learn what people think about what we’re doing.

“We find out which issues mean most to people – and we listen to what is said.”

Cllr Mallon added: “We always say that the town council is the local authority that is closest to the people and these open-house meetings demonstrate that.”

Banbury Town Council looks after parks, play areas, open spaces, cemeteries, sports grounds, allotments, bus shelters, annual events, civic events, crime prevention initiatives, the town hall, and dog litter bins.  All other council matters are the responsibility of Cherwell District or Oxfordshire County Councils.
