Hot weather warning issued for Fairport weekend
09/08/2022
Cropredy festival organisers are urging those attending to take care
An amber weather warning for extreme heat has been issued for the Banbury FM area by the Met Office. It runs from Thursday until the end of Sunday, with temperatures expected to peak at around 31 Celcius.
The warning covers the entire period of this year’s Fairport Cropredy Festival. Organisers are urging those attending to be extremely careful and, in the face of a barbecue ban they have instigated, to use the show official caterers.
They said: “Its going to be a hot Festival which comes at the end of a dry summer and of course everything is parched and tinder dry.
“We would ask you to take special care this year when you are cooking and in addition to the ban we have every year of charcoal BBQs we would be grateful if you would not bring gas BBQs either. There will be plenty of food available and plenty of choice from the caterers in the Arena.”
Cherwell District Council says in view of the warning their refuse collection crews will be starting their work earlier each morning, from 6:30am. This will mean they have less to do during the hottest hours of the day. We’re being asked to make sure our bins and caddies are out by 6am.
Meanwhile Oxfordshire Fire & Rescue dealt with 15 separate incidents yesterday which were all associated with the continued dry conditions. They are urging people to follow the latest safety advice on their website, especially when out in the countryside.
Writing on social media the service said: “We seriously urge everyone to take this advice and make sure that we all look out for each other.
“Make sure you have plenty of water to hand, sunscreen lotion for every member of the family and look to take shelter at the height of the day.”
