Cherwell writes to Persimmon Homes over Hart Close play area

The council has requested a timescale for the completion of work

Cherwell District Council has written to the developer responsible for a Hanwell Fields play area which is in a poor state, requesting a timescale for the completion of work to correct defects.

The Hart Close play area remains the responsibility of Persimmon Homes who built the local houses twenty years ago.   The area has become overgrown, with thorny brambles across the entrance gate and play equipment missing, leading to one local councillor demanding action was taken.

Yesterday Persimmon told Banbury FM they were sending someone to inspect the area with a view to bringing it up to scratch.

The developer still has ownership of the space because Cherwell District Council (as the planning authority) hasn’t been satisfied that all of the requirements of the planning agreement have been achieved.

Cherwell has now written to Persimmon.   A spokesperson for the council said: “Until the play area has been formally transferred its upkeep and maintenance remains the responsibility of Persimmon Homes.

“The play area does not meet the required standard for adoption because of a number of defects associated with it. The developer is aware of these defects and that it is their responsibility to resolve the situation.

“The Council has written to the developer again, seeking a timescale for the completion of the works required to rectify the defects identified. Once these works have been completed the play area will be inspected by Cherwell District Council and Banbury Town Council, and if acceptable the transfer will take place.”
