Community Fridge featured in Waitrose Food Magazine

Popular initiative part of item on people who have made a difference to other’s lives through food

Banbury Community Fridge is making the headlines as the lead item in a feature in the December edition of the Waitrose Food Magazine.   The driving force behind the popular initiative is Yasmin Kaduji.   The article’s author described Yasmin as “super inspiring”.

Set up in 2018 in the car park at Banbury Madni Mosque in Merton Street, the Banbury Community Fridge takes unwanted food from local supermarkets and makes it available to the local community.

Ashleigh Arnott, Features Editor for Waitrose Food Magazine, said: “We were looking for people who had really made a difference to other people’s lives through food and working with communities who needed a bit of extra help”.

Banbury Community Fridge came to the attention of the magazine team after the project won a Local Hero Award from Banbury’s MP Victoria Prentis.

Yasmin told us she had enjoyed the experience when the photographer visited the Mosque.   She said: “It was all so sudden.   It is lovely posing for the camera and the pictures absolutely fantastic.”

Typically though Yasmin didn’t have much time to think when the magazine asked for an interview as she was hard at work arranging things for the Community Fridge.   She said: “life is so busy, I just say yes, whatever, and move on”.

Ashleigh Arnott from the Waitrose Food Magazine said: “Yasmin was so wonderfully enthusiastic and proactive about the way she works with her local community.  

“The fact that she’s linking up a lot of different people in the Banbury area was really commendable.   She’s super inspiring.”
