Manager Kevin Wilkin: “I am proud of the team tonight”
Brackley Town have left this year’s FA Cup despite a very strong performance against a club 56 places above them in league positions. The Saints were defeated 1-0 by Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park last night in their second round match.
Despite being placed two divisions below their opponents, Brackley proved strong competition for Tranmere and conceded just a single goal against the Merseyside club. That goal came from a stunning strike by Kanye Woolery on the 67th minute.
The game was watched by a UK audience on BBC television and also around the world as other broadcasters chose to cover the match.
Speaking to the club’s website after the game, Manager Kevin Wilkin said: “It’s obviously disappointing to go close again but a finish of great quality made the difference.
“I am proud of the team tonight. It was a strong all-round team performance and there were plenty of excellent individual performances. We need to take this into our league form now.”
Tranmere Rovers presented Brackley Town with a framed commemorative picture which the club says will be placed in their new clubhouse.
