Longford Park residents still waiting for country park completion

01/09/2022

Six months since our first report and one resident says “nothing has changed”

In January we reported on the frustrations of Longford Park residents who were waiting for the removal of the temporary fencing that is blocking off access to large areas of their new country park.

Over six months later and it appears no progress has been made with one local resident telling Banbury FM “nothing has changed”.

Control of the area will eventually be passed over to Banbury Town Council, but only once Cherwell District Council are happy that the developers have fulfilled their planning obligations.

In January we were shown copies of correspondence where local people expressed their dissatisfaction at the lack of communication they are receiving in relation to what is happening.

At the time sticking points included a requirement that the developers’ consortium submit revised plans for the country park in order to relocate a cycle path away from an area where the gradient made it unfeasible.

We asked the developers and Cherwell District Council for an update on the situation.

A spokesperson for the Longford Park consortium said: “We continue to work closely with both Cherwell District Council and Banbury Town Council in order to complete the remaining works and facilitate handover of the country park and sports pitches at our Longford Park development.

“Whilst this remains a complex process, we do understand the frustrations of local residents. We are doing all that we can to ensure these matters are finalised as quickly as possible.”

No update or comment was available from Cherwell District Council.

We understand plans for a new cycle path have now been submitted by The Longford Park consortium to the council.

Areas of the country park and the nearby sports pitches were first fenced off early in 2021.   The consortium say they will carry out maintenance work on the country park until the area is formally handover to Banbury Town Council.

The Longford Park consortium comprises Taylor Wimpey, Barratt Homes and Vistry Group.

Questions need to be asked of the councillors involved in signing off new developments. It’s a scandal the developers in this case have delivered so little since the first houses were sold over 7 years ago.

Article does not even cover all the issues. GP surgery not built, I think we were promised a shop or pub. The roads still have not been surfaced. Lots of people are still waiting for snags to be completed. The quality of the construction on some of the homes is woeful.
