Man arrested following alleged assault of three females, including two police officers
A number of police officers were deployed to the Bankside estate in Banbury on Sunday evening following reports of an assault.
Initial accounts were received of a female being punched by a male on Chatsworth Drive at around 7pm. When police arrived a 37 year old man from Banbury was arrested on suspicion of assault.
During his arrest what then happened resulted in him being further arrested on suspicion of assaulting the two female officers who arrested him. This resulted in a heavy police presence around the Caldwell Road and Longdon Crescent areas of the new estate to the East of Bankside.
Thames Valley Police took to social media to reassure local people. They said: “We would like to reassure residents that all is OK and we are not looking for anybody else in relation to this incident.”
Anyone who witnessed the initial assault is asked to contact the Police quoting crime reference number 43220442416.
Officers also thanked the locals who had come to their aid: “To the residents of Longdon Crescent who came out to support our officers and check on them – thank you – it was very much appreciated.”
