Tenth years of Make A Will Fortnight raising Hospice funds

Solicitors and will writers waive their fees, instead asking for the cost to be donated to Katharine House
What’s going to happen to all your worldly possessions at the end of your life? Having a will is essential if you want to make sure your wishes will be followed.
Throughout this week and next anyone who needs to create a will, or update an existing will, can do so whilst raising money for the Katharine House Hospice at the same time.
Make A Will Fortnight sees participating solicitors and will writers waive their fees for a basic will, instead asking for the cost to be donated to Katharine House.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the scheme which has raised more than £120,000 since 2012, with over 500 wills have been written by local solicitors.
This year Aplins, Bradley Saul, Brethertons, Johnson & Gaunt, Spratt Endicott Solicitors and Lionheart Later Life Planning (formerly known as West Oxon Wills) have signed up to join in. They all took part in the first campaign ten years ago with Spratt Endicott Solicitors being part of the campaign every year since its inception.
Lucy Gordon, Head of the Private Client Department at Spratt Endicott Solicitors said: “Katharine House Hospice provides such a vital palliative care service to so many people both locally and further afield, and we at Spratt Endicott, are proud to be involved once again this year in the Make a Will fortnight campaign.
“Katharine House is an organisation close to our hearts, as a number of our clients, family and friends have benefited from the care provided by the hospice over the years. We firmly believe in supporting this initiative as it is so important to write a will, so that your family knows your wishes after you have died, giving clarity at what will inevitably be a very difficult time.”
Sarah Horton, Partner at Brethertons who’s three branches in Banbury, Bicester and Rugby are taking part again this year, said “As a local firm, it is really important to us to ensure that we support our local services, but as solicitors, it is sometimes difficult for us to do so. The Make a Will Fortnight is the perfect fit for us and one that we really enjoy taking part in.”
Katharine House Community Engagement officer, Sue Blank, said: “We’re extremely grateful to all the solicitors and will writers taking part in the 10th anniversary of our Make a Will Fortnight scheme.
“A will is one of the most important documents you will ever make, and we know when people are writing or updating a will, caring for family and loved ones is a top priority. Over the next two weeks, participants can ensure that their will is drawn up professionally according to their wishes, whilst raising money for people affected by incurable illnesses at the same time.”
