“We are thrilled with Ofsted’s judgements about our school and sixth form”

The sixth form at Chenderit School in Middleton Cheney has been rated as “Outstanding” in the latest Ofsted inspection.    The inspectors noted that students develop excellent subject knowledge, participate eagerly in lessons and value the personalised support their teachers provide.

The school was rated as “Good” in all other areas.

The two-day graded inspection took place on September 27 and 28.

In their report, Ofsted commented that “Leaders have high expectations for every pupil’s behaviour and attainment” and “are ambitious about what they want pupils to learn”.    They noted that “pupils in Years 7 to 11 study in calm classrooms” and “lesson routines are well established”.

Jane Cartwright, Headteacher, said: “We are thrilled with Ofsted’s judgements about our school and sixth form.

“Inspectors were rigorous throughout their two days with us during which they undertook ‘deep dive’ activities in English, maths, geography, history and art. They also visited science, modern foreign languages and a number of other subjects.

“Our students were very involved in our inspection, meeting with all the inspectors and talking about what it is like to be a student at Chenderit School. Staff and students impressed the inspection team, and our sixth form students, in particular, were exuberant about sixth form life”.

Billy Belstone, Assistant Headteacher and Head of Sixth Form, added: “We are all ecstatic that our Sixth Form has been recognised in this way.

“We pride ourselves on being a tight-knit community and I am incredibly proud of our teachers and students who work alongside one another to make our Sixth Form the special and unique place that it is.

“Inspectors praised our relentless drive for the highest of standards, the consistently powerful and remarkable teaching, and the distinctive and bespoke enrichment opportunities that are lapped up by our students. These comments, on the back of our excellent A Level results in the summer, show what an exceptional place our Sixth Form is, and I am excited to continue leading the team to ensure our students have an outstanding Sixth Form experience.”

An open evening for prospective pupils is being held at Chenderit’s sixth form on 24th November.  Places can be booked here.
