Its hoped the popular endurance walking competition will be back in 2023

This year’s Tour de Trigs will not take place.   Organisers have cancelled the hike as they didn’t have enough resources available to them to run the event safely.

The popular endurance walking competition was due to take place this weekend.

The Tour de Trigs first ran in 1964, but has been cancelled for the last two years due to the pandemic.   Plans for the 2022 competition had been progressing well with entries at higher levels than for some recent years.

However, an emergency meeting of the Tour de Trigs Committee heard that two key components of the event’s organisation did not have enough volunteers available to them, so the decision to cancel this year’s event was taken.

Those who had entered will be refunded their payments.

The Committee is hoping enough volunteers will come forward to enable them to run the Tour in 2023, with the weekend of 25-26th November selected for the hike.

The Tour de Trigs Chairman and Hike Controller, Ron Sangster, said: “It takes over 200 people to run the hike in the manner that is safe but still challenging for all concerned, and we are looking for at least 50 new volunteers who would be willing to help.

“Particularly [we are looking] for check point teams, minibuses and drivers and any who have skills and would wish to be involved with the organising committee.   We would be pleased to know names and contact details as soon as possible.”
