Party-goers found in horse box
25/11/2022
“those inside the trailer … had no understanding of just how dangerous this situation was”
Officers from the Warwickshire Rural Crime Team found an unlikely cargo in a horse box they inspected on the A422 Stratford Road outside Banbury. Instead of animals they found partygoers.
The 4*4 that was towing the horse box had been pulled over close to Upton House at around 10.45pm on November 19. The female driver told officers she wasn’t transporting any horses or livestock but was heading to a ball nearby.
The Rural Crime Team checked the horse box as part of routine late-night checks on trailers and plant machinery following an increase in thefts locally.
Whilst looking at the Vehicle Identification Number one of the officers heard some shuffling and tapping coming from inside the trailer. Upon opening the horse box around 20 people were found, using the trailer as transport to the ball.
The 39-year-old driver was reported for several offences.
A Warwickshire Police spokesperson said: “We can only be thankful that the officers hadn’t had to attend a very serious road traffic collision involving the vehicle and trailer.
“Unfortunately, its apparent from comments made to officers by those inside the trailer that they had no understanding of just how dangerous this situation was.”
