Massive response to annual toy appeal
02/12/2022
Donations will be distributed to disadvantaged children by the Sunshine Centre and Home-Start
Hundreds of fabulous Christmas gifts are on their way to good homes after a massive response to the mayor of Banbury’s annual toy appeal.
The donated toys are for children whose parents cannot afford to buy Christmas presents and are distributed to families in the town by two charities – the Sunshine Centre and Home-Start.
Mayor Jayne Strangwood said: “I want to thank all the generous people who gave to the appeal this year. The response was quite amazing and it means that children who would have missed out on Christmas will wake up on the big day to find presents at their bedside.
“It shows that in Banbury there are many people who care about others at this special time of the year. Their donations filled a large section of the town hall basement.”
Cllr Strangwood added: “Banbury Town Council has organised the toy appeal for more than 20 years and the generosity of better-off residents gives children of less-wealthy families the special Christmas Day that others take for granted.”
“I am pleased to have upheld the tradition set by many mayors before me, and I’m sure, will be continued by many mayors in the future – but it’s the people who give who make the appeal such a success.”
