Police are pleased attacker has been given a substantial sentence for the serious offence
A man has been jailed for seven years after he left another man with serious head injuries following a brutal attack on Banbury’s Middleton Road earlier this year. The victim required treatment for a fractured eye socket and broken nose, amongst other injuries.
39-year-old Jonathan Stear, of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court last Tuesday (November 28) after pleading guilty to one count of wounding with intent.
During the early hours of April 29 Stear got into an argument with a man, who he then attacked. South Central Ambulance Service attended the 54-year-old victim and called the Police to the scene. Stear was arrested inside a nearby property. He was charged with the offence the following day.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Mark Wray, of Banbury CID, said: “This was a senseless attack on a victim who has sustained serious injuries, including a fractured eye socket and broken nose.
“Thames Valley Police responded quickly to the assault, which was reported to us South Central Ambulance Service.
“Stear was arrested at the scene and a blood trail and forensics linked him to the assault.
“I’m pleased that Stear pleaded guilty and has been given a substantial sentence for this serious offence.”
