Last chance to comment on County Council budget proposals

Like Cherwell, the County is planning to hike the Council Tax by the maximum allowed
Today is the last day you can comment on the budget for next year which is being proposed by Oxfordshire County Council.
The authority intends to increase their part of the Council Tax by 4.99% – which is the largest hike they are allowed by law.
They say they have a significant funding shortfall of at least £44m. £27m of that relates to inflationary costs. The remaining £17m is due to the increasing pressures on services such as social care and care placements for both children and adults, in the face of a growing and ageing population in the county.
A step towards balancing the books will be made through £35m of savings, but that still leaves a £9m gap.
60% of the authority’s income comes from the Council Tax we pay. The uplift in the Council Tax would add £82.42 per year to the bill for a Band D property. Cherwell District Council has already announced that they plan to increase their portion of the Council Tax by the maximum allowed for them, which equates to £5 per year for a Band D property.
Oxfordshire County Council services include social care, education, roads, waste and recycling, fire and rescue and libraries.
