Puritans Groundsman named the club’s Community Captain

Andy Mayo took on the role of groundsman in 2014
The hard work and dedication of the man that looks after Banbury United’s ground has been marked. Andy Mayo took on the role of groundsman in 2014 and heads up a small team of people who undertake a range of maintenance tasks at Station Approach.
Andy has been named as the club’s Community Captain – an initiative created by the National League in celebration of 30 years of the Premier League. Clubs have been invited to shared stories which demonstrate an individual or group’s commitment to their club or local community.
The Grounds Maintenance team not only cut the grass and mark out the pitches, but they also pick up litter after games, clean the changing rooms and fix the fencing, alongside a raft of other jobs.
A spokesperson for Banbury United said: “The lifeblood of any sports ground is its grounds team. Without Andy and his team putting in the enormous effort they do, the rest of what the Club achieves, on and off the pitch, would not be possible.”
An award was made to Andy at Tuesday evening’s game with the Deputy Town Mayor, Cllr Fiaz Ahmed, joining Chairman Ronnie Johnson and Manager Andy Whing to mark the occasion.
