Banbury man jailed for rape and sexual assault
05/01/2023
Sentencing followed a five-day trial with the jury unanimously finding him guilty on two charges
A Banbury man who violently attacked a woman, sexually assaulting and raping her, has been sent to prison for eight years.
32-year-old David Williams of Mold Crescent committed the offences in April 2022. He was arrested and charged days later.
Following a five-day trial at Oxford Crown Court last year, a jury unanimously found Williams guilty of one count each of rape and sexual assault by penetration. He was acquitted of a second count of rape.
Williams was sentenced on Tuesday (January 3).
He was also given an indefinite restraining order and will be placed on the sex offenders register for life.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Samantha Davies, of the Rape and Sexual Offences team, based at Banbury police station, said: “Thames Valley Police takes rape and sexual assault offences seriously and will investigate robustly with care and support provided to the survivors.
“I am pleased Williams will go to jail for a significant period, the sentence reflects the severity of his offences.
“I would also like to thank the survivor for reporting the offence to police and having a huge amount of strength during this extremely difficult period.”
