The medic from Brackley’s Springfield Surgery had worked with restrictions since January 2022

A doctor who prescribed medicines online without proper knowledge of who he was giving them to has now been cleared to work without restrictions. Dr Dal Samra, who works at Springfield Surgery in Brackley, had special conditions placed on him for 12 months in January 2022.
While working for a medical website in addition to his work at the surgery, he was found to have signed off 25 prescriptions for 17 patients without proper knowledge of their circumstances between August 2018 and October 2019.
The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) said last year that Dr Samra’s “negligent and dangerous prescribing practices” had put people at “unwarranted risk of harm”.
He admitted wrongdoing when the MPTS heard his case. While he was allowed to continue to work at the surgery full-time, it allowed him only to prescribe to patients at his surgery.
It said he had “failed to grasp” that some of the patients online might have lied to get drugs that should not have been prescribed to them. At a hearing on Tuesday, the MPTS found Dr Samra had undertaken work over the last year, including with a drug and alcohol team, and now has a “greater understanding” of substance misuse issues.
The General Medical Council agreed that Dr Samra’s fitness to work was no longer impaired. All conditions against him have been lifted.
