Roads Policing Unit reminder of e-scooter rules
11/01/2023
Personal e-scooters should only be used in private areas with the landlord’s consent
The Roads Policing Unit at Thames Valley Police has reminded us that anyone who was given an e-scooter for Christmas cannot legally use it in public areas. The force has issued a message saying that e-scooters can only be used in private areas with the landlord’s consent.
E-scooters are classified as Personal Light Electric Vehicles so they are treated as motor vehicles and subject to the same legal requirements such as MOT, licensing, tax and insurance.
As e-scooters do not have number plates, signalling ability and don’t always have visible rear lights, they can’t be used legally on the roads.
