Flood warning issued for River Cherwell
13/01/2023
The warning covers the section from Charwelton to Upper Heyford, including Banbury
A flood warning has been introduced for the River Cherwell from Charwelton to just above Upper Heyford. The Environment Agency says flooding is possible in this area, including in Banbury town centre.
The advice is that people should avoid using low lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding.
Many of the fields alongside Kings Sutton and between Ayhno and Clifton have been underwater in recent days. Sections of the river in Banbury have broken the bank in low lying places such as the river’s path between Spiceball Sports Centre and the Lidl superstore.
The flood warning was issued at 10:18am and covers both the River Cherwell and its tributaries. These areas are affected: Woodford Halse, Edgcote, Cropredy, Marston St Lawrence, Banbury, Kings Sutton, Hook Norton and Croughton.
